WILMINGTON - A Northmont High School school teacher and track coach was arrested by the Clinton County Sheriffs Office early Tuesday morning after he was discovered parked with a 17-year-old Englewood girl and both were partially undressed.
Loren P. Meadows. 35, of Union, was arrested and initially charged with obstructing official business and resisting arrest after he allegedly refused to comply with the orders of the investigating officers.
The sheriff's office received a report at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday of a suspicious vehicle parked in the driveway of an abandoned house at 3267 Clarksville Road, Clarksville. When deputies arrived at the scene, Meadows and the juvenile were discovered inside the vehicle.
"Initially, when asked his age, he (Meadows) tried to pass himself off as being 17 as well," said Lt. Pete Smith of the sheriff's office. "With the help of the onboard computers that we have now, we were able to pull up his age and Social Security number and we found he was 35-years-old."
Smith said Meadows, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was asked to step out of the vehicle.
"He didn't comply with those orders and he became combative," Smith said. "They (deputies) got one handcuff on him and at that time he resisted arrest. He was drive-stunned with a taser to comply. After he was drive-stunned he complied and was arrested."
Smith said the 17-year-old female was on Meadows' track team at Northmont High School
When deputies arrived, they found Meadows shirtless, his shorts were partially down and he was lying back in the vehicle, according to Deputy Mark Underwood. The 17-year-old girl was wearing blue jean shorts which were unbuttoned and unzipped, Underwood said, and her bra was lying in the seat beside her.
The case was submitted to the Clinton County prosecutor's office for additional charges.
"It was good police work," said Clinton County Sheriff Ralph D. Fizer, Jr. "The deputies were observant and In the case of the tasers, that's what they are used for so they followed procedure. Rather than getting into a fight and someone getting injured, they are supposed to use the tasers to minimize injury to anyone."
Meadows was incarcerated at the Clinton County Jail.
