Northmont NJROTC raising funds for drill competitions, summer leadership camps Northmont High School Navy Junior ROTC will be ramping up its fund-raising efforts this spring as the unit prepares to finish out the drill season with trips to regional and, if they qualify, national competitions and then to send cadets to summer leadership camps in June.
Booster Fund-raising Officer Kelly Lewis works hard all year finding and organizing various fund-raisers to help cadets off-set the costs of drill meets and other unit activities.
Cadets have bagged groceries for tips at Cub Foods in Trotwood several days this school year, including last weekend, and plan to participate again on April 2. This has been one of our most successful fund-raisers this year, and it underscores the unit's commitment to raising money by getting cadets working rather than selling.
Another upcoming fund-raiser is Pizza Hut Day on Friday, March 19, at the Taywood Road Pizza Hut in Englewood. Pizza Hut will give the unit 25 percent of qualifying sales from that day. To qualify, orders must be accompanied by a flyer, which is available from the Northmont NJROTC Web site: www.northmontnjrotc.com; both carryout and dine-in sales qualify, including the lunch buffet from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The unit is encouraging the Northmont community to organize co-workers to carryout or dine-in for lunch and then get family and friends together to dine-in or carryout for dinner to maximize NJROTC's fund-raising. Northmont cadets will volunteer to help serve at Pizza Hut between 4 and 9 p.m. They have held similar fund-raisers with LaRosa's in Englewood for 20 percent of qualifying sales.
Additionally, the unit is selling Northmont Thunderbolt Pride window clings for $5 this spring. Cadets will sell window clings at Englewood Kroger on April 2 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. To order window clings, contact the NJROTC office at 832-6010, or order online from the unit Web site.
As the weather warms up, the unit will begin scheduling car washes, which are usually held at the Valero station on North Main Street. Additionally, the Do It Best Hardware on West National Road has sponsored a hot dog cookout, with cadets and boosters manning the grill to raise funds. Be sure to check the Web site for dates of these upcoming warm-weather events.
As always, community members, family, and friends can donate directly to the unit or to individual cadets on the Northmont NJROTC Web site by visiting the eShop.
