Northmont City Schools will be looking for a new superintendent in the coming weeks.
The school board accepted Superintendent Doug Lantz's resignation at its Monday night meeting.
Lantz, who began as superintendent at Northmont in the 2008-09 school year, has accepted the position of superintendent at Edgewood City Schools in Trenton.
"We wish you well in the future. We hope you have learned as much from us as we have learned from you," Board President Linda Blum said to Lantz, upon acceptance of his resignation.
Lantz was officially hired at Edgewood on June 8 during a special board meeting at a reported base salary of $110,000, with a 4.5 percent annuity and a 2 percent incentive bonus.
Before coming to Northmont, Lantz was with the Milford and Lakota districts before becoming Franklin's superintendent in 2006.
The Northmont Board met in executive session following the regular meeting Monday night to discuss hiring a new superintendent.
Blum said on Tuesday morning that the board has decided to conduct a search for an interim replacement, hopefully in time for the upcoming school year.
"The Ohio School Board Association has a list of individuals who would be interested in just that. Also the consultants we used in our last search have some people, and there may be some local people we don't know about," Blum said.
"Because this will be interim, we also will conduct a more full-fledged search for a replacement," Blum added.
Edgewood School District is significantly closer to my home and family," Lantz told the Independent. "I'll be able to drive home between normal office hours and evening meetings."
Lantz said that Edgewood will be breaking ground on a new high school this fall.
"The two-year building project will be an exciting one," he said.
