Officers host fishing derby for youth
WEST MILTON - Law enforcement officers and youngsters of all ages spent the day around the local fishing hole in friendly competition Saturday.

The West Milton police department hosted a fishing tournament for school age children, with roughly 15 students attending.

Freshman Orientation Camp
WEST MILTON - Do you recall your first day of high school as a freshman and being scared to death? Many incoming ninth graders feel this way about entering this new chapter of their lives. To alleviate these fears of entering high school, Milton-Union High School began a program called Freshman Focus, which includes having individual mentors for these students and attending a camp before school.

West Milton said goodbye to one of its most respected citizens last weekend as George Richard Mote, 79, died unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday.

George Mote passes at 79
George Richard Mote, 79, of rural West Milton, Union Township, Miami County, died unexpectedly at his residence on Tuesday, Aug., 2008. He was born on Aug. 13, 1928, in Laura, to the late William C. (Clark) and Victoria (Nyswonger) Mote. He was the youngest of five children.

County Fair now open


Today marks the beginning of the Miami County Fair, and with high temperatures expected in the upper 70s and lower 80s for the week, those behind the scenes working to put the fair together are thrilled.

Local trio headed to Ohio Northern
ADA - Leah M. Cash, daughter of Raymond and Susan Cash, 4820 Clarks Staton Road, Greenville, has enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio Northern University for the 2008-09 school year. She will be a freshman majoring in general studies.

Local teen fellowship has national audience
Tipp City's Christian Family Fellowship, 1575 State Route 571, had a new addition to its grounds during the last week of June - six giant tents to house 88 kids from 21 different states, along with 33 crew members.
