Hometown Holiday Walk set for Sunday
While the distance between locations are rather short a whole world's worth of shopping can be traveled at the 7th annual Hometown Holiday Walk in Centerville this Sunday, Nov 22. Following this year's theme of "Home for the Holidays" many area businesses are opening their hearts and doors to all shoppers, encouraging them to buy locally.
The owner of Joli Boutique, Debbie Teeters, one of the original founders of the Holiday Walk and a member of the sponsoring Heart of Centerville, helped develop this year's theme.
"People want to go home for holidays, it's where the heart is, and at these times they want to buy local," Teeters said.
As an added draw, shoppers can pick-up a Hometown Holiday Passport and a goody bag at the Washington Township Town Hall Theatre on N. Main Street, starting at 1 p.m. There will be three separate types of passports, each with six designated businesses. The different passports will be distributed randomly, and are to be stamped by each of the businesses listed. The completed passports are to then be turned in as an entrance to raffle for three luxuriously packaged themed baskets including; Evening at Home, featuring a DVD player and home entertainment items; Family Holiday, featuring a HoneyBaked Ham with all the trimmings and other items; and Out & About, featuring a limousine ride, movie, theatre and sports tickets and other gifts and gift certificates.
Additional passports for more chances to win can be purchased for $2 with all proceeds going towards the Children's Medical Center. The drawing for gift baskets will be held at 5:30 p.m. at Benham's Grove, 166 North Main Street, where the day wraps up with the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Joli Boutique, one of the businesses participating, features European style apparel and fashionable trends from all across the country.
"We have one of a kind, unique merchandise with something for everyone," Teeters said.
For the goody bags, received with the passports, the businesses will give out free prizes to help fill them up. To find out what Joli Boutique is giving, shoppers will have to visit.
The chance to give back to the community makes the Holiday Walk one of Teeters favorite times of the year. "It's all about the wonderful people who come visit," she said.
Another place for passports to be stamped is Unique Celebrations, owned by Kathleen Jablinski. Only open since July, the store specializes in personalized created baskets and all accessories needed to host a party. Also sold is painted wineglasses and vintage jewelry made from a collection of materials, such as chester drawer handles. Each purchase is also uniquely wrapped to add to its rare specialization.
Jablinski has always enjoyed using her creatively talented touch on things to bring a heightened level of pleasure to people and with her children grown, she decided to make it a business.
During the Holiday Walk, customers will be treated to some Wassle to drink and a dessert bar, all in the cupcake themed room, which can be rented for small parties or events. Massages will also be offered.
At Miss Kelle's, while getting their passport stamped, shoppers can also look for all the needed accessories for an elegant night out. Though high in stylish quality, the merchandise is low in price.
"I like selling high-end items at a bargain price," said Laurie Smalley, owner of the finer and designer, ladies consignment store.
For the Holiday Walk, Miss Kelle's will be filling the goodie bags with fliers for Black Friday and offering refreshments, including mimosas.
Also participating is the Centerville Coin and Jewelry Connection, a one stop shop that offers a wide variety of items for babies up to grandparents, and a coin shop. It has been involved in each of the holiday walks.
Appearing as a special guest will be Russian artist Kristina Krasnov who will demonstrate painting G. De Brekht art from noon to 4 p.m.
"The artists only go to five or six places in the entire United States," Steve Dieckman, manager of the Coin & Jewelry Connection said.
Dieckman also warned that some people could possibly be spotted out on the streets during the Holiday Walk giving away some prizes.
Businesses or organizations that are also participating in the passport adventure are the Walton House, Bello-One Designs, Esther Price Candies, Routsong Funeral Home, Christian Science Reading Room & Bookstore, 252 West Salon and Medspa, Far Hills Florist, Mercy Hill Church (at Cross Point Vineyard Church), Circa..For The Home, Surface Fusion, Princess Tea Room, Visceral Gallery, Centerville Framing & Gifts, and Vintage Scout Interiors.
RTA will be providing its Holiday Trolley for easy transportation to all the designated areas.
