Mayor's event raises $12 K for groups Three local organizations are benefiting from money raised during the 2nd annual Mayor's Charity Event held back in November.
Centerville Mayor Mark Kingseed reported at the January 25 City Council meeting that the event raised more than $12,000 and that the money was being distributed to three worthy groups - Habitat for Humanity, The Castle and Hannah's Treasure Chest.
Each group will receive just over $4,000.
President of Habitat for Humanity's Board of Trustees and newly reelected Centerville Deputy Mayor Doug Cline said the group plans to look into rehabbing existing Habitat homes, along with building new homes for needy families.
Dick Neff of The Castle told council members that the organization has been serving mentally-challenged people since 1993. Volunteers serve 160 members meals each month, Neff said.
Angela Addington of Hannah's Treasure Chest explained her organization started 10 years ago in her garage, and now provides items to more than 7,200 children in the area.
