St. Leonard's offers Catholic religious education classes
Catholic religious education classes for children in preschool (age 4) through 7th grade start Sunday, September 12. K-7 will meet from 9-10:15 a.m. Preschool meets from 10:20-11:15 a.m. Registration for Confirmation formation for students in 8th and 9th grades is also being accepted. First Communion class for 2nd grade is part of the curriculum as well.

Lawmaker encourages veterans to apply for the bonus program
State Senator Chris Widener (R-Springfield) is encouraging area veterans to fill out applications for the Ohio Veterans Bonus Program, which provides one-time cash bonuses of up to $1,000 to Ohio veterans who served on active duty up during the Persian Gulf War and the ongoing conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.

League of Women Voters to host Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Ellen Goodman
Ellen Goodman, Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist, will be the guest of the League of Women Voters of the Greater Dayton Area to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the League. Goodman, who has spent much of her career following the women's movement, gladly accepted the invitation with her typical spirit and style, "I love the idea of being associated with any dangerous dame."

Centerville Police earns highest accreditation honors
The Centerville Police Department recently received Flagship Agency status, the highest achievement awarded by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). This marks the second time for the department to achieve Flagship Agency status and the seventh time the Centerville Police Department has been successful in its bid for accreditation.

Maps of Centerville on display at Centerville gallery
Maps of Centerville's past and present are currently on display at the Centerville Arts Commission Gallery at the Police Department until the beginning of September. The Police Department is located at 155 W. Spring Valley Road in Centerville. The Art Gallery is staffed 24-hours per day and exhibits may be viewed anytime, day or night. All exhibits are free and open to the public.
