Schools receive honor The Beavercreek City Schools were recently recognized for being among a select group of Ohio school districts that earned the highest rating on its 2007-08 state report card. To earn this honor, districts must meet at least 94 percent of the state indicators or have a Performance Index (PI) score of at least 100 and have above expected growth for at least two consecutive years on the new value-added calculation. Value-added is a new measurement that determines how much progress was made since the previous school year.
Jane Sonenshein, State Board of Education District 10 representative, was in attendance at a recent BHS football game to recognize Beavercreek for receiving the highest academic rating possible in the state of Ohio, "Excellence With Distinction." Beavercreek is the only school system in District 10 that earned the Excellent with Distinction rating.
Beavercreek City Schools earned a PI score of 102.9, met 29 of the 30 state indicators and exceeded expected progress for the past two years.
"It is an honor for everyone in Beavercreek to have such exceptional students, teachers and parents," superintendent Dennis Morrison said.
School board president Peg Arnold said she is thrilled with the district's results, but expressed concern about the future for the schools. "Our teachers work hard to continue providing our students with the best education possible even while facing serious challenges like overcrowding and buildings with inadequate heating, cooling, electrical, plumbing and security systems," she said. "But so far our students and staff continue to shine."
