The Wayne boys basketball team routed Miamisburg 102-41 Saturday, Dec. 27. The game was a makeup of its Dec. 19 cancellation.
The Warriors improved their record to 5-1 by sprinting to a 55-14 halftime lead, thanks to a 30-6 second-quarter explosion.
Against the Vikings, 12 scorers appeared on the statsheet with senior Jordan Bazile scoring a game-high 23 points.
Sophomores Markus Crider (12 points) and Travis Trice II (11), combined for 23 more points.
"Jordan's been having a great year so far, especially percentage-wise," said head coach Travis Trice of the guard. "Most of that is, we've got guys that are getting really good shots, really good looks. He's finding a way to get open and we're finding him with his feet set. He's a very good shooter when that happens."
Trice explained how Bazile has made such a big impact on Wayne's perimeter play.
"A lot of guys' game plans, at least early in the season, are to make sure they keep Travis and Markus in check, and Jordan's kind of flown in under the radar," said Trice. "Now that it's out there, he's had three 20-point games in a row, we know teams are going to scout him and know what he's all about."
Senior forward Dominique Fowler was Bazile's best supporting teammate with 13 points.
"He's just a hard worker," said Trice of Fowler. "That's what I'd hoped to get from him last year. He really worked hard this summer on his body, coming in ready to go as a senior. He wanted to have a big year, and I told him before the season started that 10 points and seven rebounds per game, and that's actually right at about what he's averaging. It's really more about finishing around the basket, because he's a good athlete. We just need him concentrate on controlling the ball and finishing around the basket. He's done a really good job at that, and also running the floor on the break."
Trice said he was pleased Wayne had the opportunity to get a lot of players minutes.
"We played well," said Trice. "We took care of the ball, which is something we've really been focusing on. We pushed the ball up the floor and finished on the break. We did a pretty good job defensively, as well. Those are the three main areas we were concentrating on.
"It's really about us being aggressive offensively with the ball," added Trice. "Our motto is, the open guy always gets the ball. As long as we continue to do that, with few turnovers, we'll continue to shoot a pretty good percentage."
Wayne scoring - Devin Bartlett 3, Bazile 23, Keith Clements 5, Crider 12, Fowler 13, Lamar Mallory 9, Spencer Mims 5, Tre' Moore 5, Mark Pierce 8, Justin Scheibenzuber 6, Trice 11, Brandon Williams 2.
