CENTERVILLE — The fifth grade Alpha Club (Optimist Club) at Normandy Elementary sponsored nine days raising money for Pennies for Patients, which benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The school’s honored hero was second grade teacher Mrs. Crabtree’s daughter, Kayleigh, who is said to be well after three years of treatment.
Here, Andre Zimmerman, Olivia Perry and Nicole Gardner hold one of the many strands of paper chains students made as they collected more than $6,000 for Pennies for Patients in nine days. Each chain link represented a dollar that each student raised.
The school set a goal of $3,000 and staff members promised to provide class celebrations, even promised to dance and wear crazy pink hair. Pictures to the left show Denise Willits, Linda Meily, Tammy Isaacs, and Joy Lough dancing for second graders during lunchtime on Feb. 14.
